Make a money card with your Scan'N'Cut

A sweet and discreet way to give a monetary gift, that adds a personal touch to the person you are gifting to. The circle on the money card with the dragon on it is there so you can write the amount of money on the card or add your own customization.

Jennifer used her brother Scan'N'Cut to cut the cardstock for this project. The files she used are from Creative Fabrica. They have a wide variety of money cards for every occasion and taste.

This six week project-based beginner-level class for adults will start the students building a solid foundation in the world of sewing. Never touched a sewing machine before? No problem!

Three projects have been selected to build a strong foundation, and key sewing skills. Students will learn safe machine operation, and techniques for independent sewing. We do change projects from time to time, however if this occurs the learning outcomes remain the same. There will be homework in between classes.

Current projects and learning outcomes:
- Pillowcase: Learn to sew long straight lines (yes, it is way harder than expected), and how to sew a french seam. This is an important technique you will use later for professionally finished garments.
- Pencil case or Toiletries Bag: Learn zipper installation, precision sewing in small spaces and adding a lining.
- PJ Pants: Pattern reading and material choice, introduction to fitting
if necessary, introduction to working with a serger (provided in class if you do not own one), and elastic installation.

Materials for all class projects are available at That Sewing Place, and come at a 15% discount with class. Please be sure to either come before class to select your materials, or speak with your teacher on the first day of class to learn appropriate material selection. Time for this is built into class.

Cost: $150 plus materials, which are available at 15% discount after class registration.

Date: Tuesday June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and July 7, 2026 from 2-4pm OR Saturday June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25 and August 8, 2026 from 10-12pm.

This project based beginner class for children 9 to 13 years of age will start them building a solid foundation in the world of sewing. Each project has been selected to focus on a different sewing skill, which progressively builds their sewing knowledge. On completion of this class students will understand sewing machine safety and basic operation. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine, but there are machines available for use in the classroom if necessary.

What to expect from the projects:

  • Pillowcase $25-30: straight lines which is harder than expected, and French seam. French seam is a valuable technique to every sewist, especially to be used later in garment sewing.
  • Pencil case/makeup bag $8-15: Installation of zipper and working with lining. Precision in a small space.
  • Pajama Pants or shorts $25-40: Introduction to reading a pattern and choosing the appropriate size, top-stitching, elastic installation and basic hemming.

Although we have a set curriculum, we acknowledge each students' individual learning speed, style and needs. It is important that before moving on to the next level Kidstart Beginner Part 2 the student meets the learning outcomes confidently so that they are prepared to move on to more complicated projects. Should the student wish to sign up and repeat this session to solidify their skills, the teacher will choose a new set of engaging projects geared to the students' needs and interests.

Ask the Expert!

Expert Tip: Totally Stable is re-usable!

"Yes, Totally Stable is re-usable! Sulky Totally Stable stabilizer is a temporary, iron-on, tear-away stabilizer that is perfect for knits and stretchy fabrics. It ''totally" stabilizes in seconds with no time-consuming pinning. Eliminates shifting, sliding and puckering, then tears away easily, leaving no sticky residue. You can re-use totally stable many times before the adhesive wears out. Save your scraps to be used again for another hooping, or to stabilize tricky fabrics like knits or satin."
