Fox Sweatshirt

How sweet is this fennec fox hoodie Jenn made? The design is the Fennec Fox SVG from Creative Fabrica. Jenn chose to do something a little different, and put the large design on the back of the hoodie, the smaller fox on the front and a tiny little sleeping fox on the sleeve cuff.

Want a design that you can't find anywhere else? Use heat transfer vinyl or foil to customize a new garment, or spice up an old one. The design Jenn used is from the Dragon Tattoo Design Vector Bundle from creative Fabrica.

This design is called A Northern Lights Blue Jays Panel Scene Design Pack from Embroidery Library. We love how the black background makes the bright colours pop!

Have you tried a tile scene before? We often hear customers express concern that it seems difficult or overwhelming...but it really isn't as difficult as it seems. Here are a few tips from Lea for a successful tile scene.

1. Download the instructions and print the thread chart. This is helpful because it keeps your colours consistent throughout the whole design. It's easy to lose track without the chart.

2. Prepare your stabilizer the same for every panel so that you can rehoop quickly and easily.

3. If you are using cotton, an iron on interfacing like Presto really helps your design come out nice and crisp. Yes, even if you are using embroidery stabilizer it still makes a difference to use an iron on stabilizer.

This project-based beginner class for children 14-18 years of age will start them building a solid foundation in the world of sewing. Each project has been selected to focus on a different sewing skill, which progressively builds their sewing knowledge. On completion of this class students will understand sewing machine safety and basic operation. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine, but there are machines available for use in the classroom if necessary.

What to expect from the projects:

  • Pillowcase $25-$30: Straight lines (which is harder than it may seem) and french seam. French seam is a valuable technique to every sewist and can be used later in garment sewing.
  • Pencil case/Make up bag $8-$15: Installation of zippers and lining, and precision in a small space
  • Pajama Pants or shorts $25-$40: Introduction to reading a pattern and selecting the appropriate size, top-stitching, elastic installation and basic hemming.

Although we have a set curriculum, we acknowledge each students' individual learning style and needs. It is important that before moving on to the next level of projects the student meets the learning outcomes. When required a new set of projects will be selected to continue to build their skills.

Cost: $150 plus materials available at a 15% discount.

Dates: February 13, 20, March 6, 13, 27 & April 10 2026, from 4:30-6:30

Ask the Expert!

Expert Tip: Don't over-tighten the hoop screws on your embroidery hoops.

How do you know if a hoop screw is over tightened? If you can't turn the screw anymore with a screwdriver, or have to work hard to turn it then the screw is over tightened.

Why is it bad? It puts stress on the hoop which can eventually cause stress cracks and breakage. It also damages the screw thread on both the screw and nut until the point that it will no longer tighten because the thread will be stripped. At that point, you will need to replace both the screw and nut as a pair. Replacing only one of the two will result in faster wear, and early replacement.

Turning the screw that tight is not necessary. If you feel you have to go that tight, then you likely need to try a different hooping solution.

Name That Tool?

Micro-serrated shears are a versatile tool to have in your sewing room. One blade is micro-serrated, and the other is not. This gives you an advantage on knits or slippery materials because the micro-serration pulls the material towards the blades instead of it being pushed away. View our micro-serrated shears here.
