What's New?

NEW PRODUCTS! Extra Wide Tearaway/Pattern Tracing Paper!

For out pattern makers and designers...we have a new option for pattern tracing paper. This is very wide tear away stabilizer, originally for embroidery but PERFECT for pattern tracing. This paper is 106cm wide, or just under 42".

This makes editing and tracing patters way more affordable. More time sewing, and more money to spend on new fabric instead of tracing paper.

Check it out here.

Mylar is a transparent plastic that is iridescent pink and yellow. It is a fun way to add a sparkle to your embroidery designs. Lion Embroidery

Lea wanted something fun to spice up an old hoodie. She chose the Regal Lion from urban Threads. She didn't want the embroidery to be stiff, so she used one layer of polymesh and three layers of Easy Stitch Tearaway.

Nice job Lea!

Ask the Expert!

Expert Tip: Does your needle keep breaking when you are working on dense material, or a bulkier section of an item you are sewing or serging? There are a few things that could be contributing to your grief.

First of all, double checking you have the right type and size of needle for that section of your project is the first line of defense.

Next, don't pull the fabric. Although tempting...when you pull the fabric from behind because it may not want to feed through easily on its own, it pulls the needle backwards as it is entering the fabric. This can misalign the needle as it pierces the fabric, causing it to hit the needle plate, and break. This often damages your needle plate in the process, and can cause burrs that snag your material, or cause jams.

So, what can be done to successfully work through thicker seams? If your machine comes with dual feed, or a walking foot that will help greatly. If you haven't tried one, a hump jumper (some machines have a hump compensator built into the feet) is an excellent tool that makes going over thicker seams a breeze. You can also use a stiletto to help guide the fabric towards the presser foot, without putting tension on the material from pulling the material from behind the machine.

Name That Tool?

Do you have fibres clogging your sewing mat? Even a self healing sewing mat can become clogged with fibres. Cleaning your mat regularly will really help it last longer and cut cleaner. This mat eraser helps pull our the threads and fibres that are stuck in the grooves of your mat, and makes regular maintenence easy!

Check out the Mat Eraser here.
