February Findings 2024

February Findings at That Sewing Place

Hello everyone, we hope that you have been well and enjoying your craft room to the fullest. The winter is the best time to stay inside and accomplish your projects.

This month we are pleased to share some new classes that are up for registration, amazing sales from Bernina and Brother and some fun show off's from our staff.

What's New

Spice up an old shirt with some HTV! - Jen

Jen used a design from Creative Fabrica. She used Lime Green Flock for the design, which has a velvety feel. Check out Flock to see all the currently available colours.

Flock is a really fun vinyl to use on clothing because of the texture. Flock is thicker then regular heat transfer vinyl and can be layered, but it should be on the top when layered with other vinyls.

Barb's Yarn Bag

Barb made this lovely Yarn Bag out of Wide Grey Floral, and lined it with Pink Arizona. The pattern she used is her original design. Lovely Barb!

Monster Truck PJ Pants

These pants were made using Jalie pattern #3243 Pull on Pants and Shorts, and Mighty Machines flannel that is SO cozy, perfect for loungewear. She lined up the print on the pockets by using Swedish tracing web. Swedish Tracing Web is partially transparent, so by tracing the print onto the tracing web where the pockets were to sit, Mikaela successfully cut the fabric to match the pattern underneath the pockets. They are almost invisible!

Bella Bucket Bag - Debbie

This is the Bella Bucket Bag by Oro Rosa Patterns. Debbie used Wide Floral Canvas, and Vinyl Fabric for the handle and bag bottom. See all Vinyl Fabric here.

Ask the Expert!

Sofia asked: "What is a tracing wheel used for? I have them in my grandmothers cookie tin turned sewing container but don't know what to do with them."

Answer: "Hey Sofia, great question! Tracing wheels are a wonderful things, and have a variety of uses. Years ago, you would use a tracing wheel with a sheet of transfer paper to trace the pattern and important marks from the pattern directly to the fabric.

Another use for the tracing wheel is when making alterations to your pattern or designing from scratch. Once you have confirmed the new line of stitching, lay the fabric piece onto the corresponding pattern piece and use your tracing wheel to trace the stitching line. It will poke through onto the paper leaving a dotted line for you to see. From there you can make the appropriate pattern adjustments"

Name That Tool?

The Mini Vacuum Attachments are one of the best tools to clean your machine! They make it easy and fast to clean the machine. They help you get into the nooks and crannies of your machine, and make cleaning out your serger a breeze!

As most of you know, canned air is a huge no-no if you want a healthy happy machine. Use the vacuum and mini attachments with a bristle brush/toothbrush, you will not be disappointed!
