January 2024

We are back in the shop!

Welcome back! We really enjoyed this last week sewing, playing games, and annoying our family... that is what they are there for right??

What's New

Soak and Flatter restock!

What do you use for your Soakworthy items? You don't have anything that is soakworthy? Are you sure? We know, not much really requires delicate care anymore, but you may be surprised to learn that you may own more sokworthy items then you think.

Soak is a gentle no rinse laundry soap (but we still do a gentle rinse by hand). It is made in Canada, and is very environmentally conscious, right down to the bottles and recycled wash bags.

Soak is made to be as gentle on the environment as it is on your clothing. Made with plant derived and renewable ingredients, which means it is biodegradable, phosphate-free, dye-free, sulphate-free and safe for hand or machine washing (including HE).

Soak is the perfect solution for washing hats, mitts, sweaters, whether natural or synthetic fibres, delicate items like heirloom, lingerie, slips, camisole's or bra's and swimwear. You can also use soak on Baby items and quilts!

But why? Why put in the extra effort? Because there is no better feeling then keeping your delicate or favourite items clean and in great condition for a very long time. Don't believe us? Try out the mini soak (single use) and tell us what you think!

Flatter

Flatter is a starch free smoothing spray that is delightful to use. Use it while sewing and quilting to finger press your seams, or even just pressing your clothing. If you are traveling bring a travel bottle with you to keep your clothes wrinkle free while you are away. The best part: because it is starch free, you never have to worry about it attracting bugs when your garments or quilts are being stored.

Marlene's Stylish Fleece Hoodie

Marlene used the Glacier Melange Double Sided Fleece and the Alex Half Zip Pull-over pattern by Jalie to make her stylish hoodie. The Glacier fleece is really lovely because it is double sided, stretchy, and very cozy!

Market Bag - Marlene

This is the Market Bag from Sharon Holland Designs. Marlene used Moody Sunday Canvas for the exterior and interior of the bag. This bag is a quick sew, and a great size for everyday use. Ot would make a perfect yarn bag even.

P.S. The Forever Dog is a really good read for any of our dog lovers out there!

Teresita Train Case - Barb

Sage Booklet from Blue Calla

This is the Sage Booklet from Blue Calla Sewing Patterns. It is a really nice pattern, and is so incredibly versatile.  This makes a great makeup case, school or office supply organizer, or traveling first aid kit. Debbie also added her own touch by adding a little pocket for pencils on the inside spine of the booklet.

Deb used Cheers - Light Wine as the main material, Halcyon - 7HN Red for the trim, Mainstreet - Vanilla Multi for the inside pockets and Clear Vinyl for the zippered pockets.

Ask the Expert!

Jacob asked: "The tensions on my PR Embroidery Machine are off. I've adjusted them and nothing is working!"

"Hello Jacob, there a few things you can try at home that should resolve the issue. The first step before you adjust the needle tension is to check the bobbin case tension and adjust it based on the instructions on your manual. There are different settings for different bobbins such as metal bobbins, or pre-wound plastic or paper bobbins. Metal bobbins are heavier, and require two bobbin weights, where as the plastic and paper bobbins only require one weight. This is something that should be checked at least weekly. It is extremely underrated and makes a massive difference in the performance of your machine.

If cleaning and checking the bobbin case and bobbin case tension does not resolve your issue, then you can try cleaning the tension discs. The tension discs are under the tension dials on the head of your machine. You clean them by turning the dial counterclockwise until the dial comes off. Remove the pieces observing the order they came off of the machine so you can put them back as they were placed originally and use a dry q-tip to clean off the lint and dust. Put the tension discs back on, re-thread your machine and you should be good to go!"
