The tone on tone lettering is subtle, and classy, and we just love the reflective thread she used on the mountain! What a cool touch, and nice for some visibility if adventuring at night.

Ask the Expert!

We had a question come in from Tracy regarding patterns. This is one we get all the time, and are so glad you asked!

"I have a couple of favourite patterns that I use all the time, but they rip and tear where they are folded and I’m constantly having to tape them up.  They are patched together where I’ve had to alter the pattern, and basically, they are a mess.  They are favourites that I use all the time, but some are discontinued and I can’t replace them.  What can I do to preserve them?"  - Tracy

"Three Words… Swedish Tracing Paper.

This paper has a fabric-like texture and feel, kind of like a non-woven interfacing.  You can not only trace your pattern onto it by laying it on top of your pattern (it’s thin enough to see the lines underneath), but you can also sew pieces of it together.  So if you have to make alterations, you can cut and add or subtract pieces and attach them together with your machine.  It’s also tear resistant (although you can rip it if you need to) and can be ironed flat again after being folded in the envelope or a binder for storage.  It can tolerate steam and if it gets wet, all you have to do is lay it or hang it to dry (or give it a quick iron on a low setting) and your now discontinued pattern will be well preserved for years to come.

Use the pieces to semi construct your pattern to ensure fit.   This is especially great when the pattern requires darts or pleats.  Using the newly traced and cut pattern piece of Swedish Tracing Paper and just sew the dart or pleat, lay it against your body or dress judy and you'll know if you have the right fit.  If not, remove the stitches, adjust accordingly, sew it up again, check the fit and unpick the seam again and you're ready to cut your fabric knowing that your finished garment will fit!

It will ensure you have your favourite patterns for years.

This fabric also has an almost zero carbon footprint.  Just sew all your bits and pieces that you've cut other patterns from to make a new piece to use and cut another pattern piece from.
" - Charmaine

Name That Tool?

Spray Adhesive
is a very controversial topic in the sewing and creative community. It can be really handy, but also really hurtful to your machine...so which is it? Handy or Hurtful?

Generally we don't recommend spray adhesive, because most gum up your machine, and continue to cause problems after spraying...however Perfect Baste is our exception. Here is why.

Perfect Baste is a temporary fabric spray adhesive, that is great to use for quilting, sewing, crafting, applique and embroidery.

Perfect baste is:

  • Odourless
  • Colourless
  • Spotless
  • No mist
  • Acid free
  • Free of CFC
  • Does not gum needles

We have used Perfect Baste to tack on a quilt back before quilting, and absolutely LOVED not using pins! So fast and easy!

Or, use to tack down an applique for an easy stitch on! SO many uses, your only limit is your imagination.

Also economical, you get 300 ml per bottle, for only $20.60!

Check out Perfect Baste HERE

Until we have an opportunity to see you again! Stay healthy, stay safe!
